Acupuncture is a highly regulated field in the U.S.
Practitioners must be licensed.
In order to hold a license, practitioners must complete the following steps in this order:
Earn a Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent
Earn a Master’s Degree of Acupuncture, which requires 3 -5 years of rigorous, typically full-time education in both Eastern and Western medicine
Pass national board exams on Biomedicine (aka Western Medicine), Acupuncture, and Traditional Chinese Medicine
Apply for and receive National Certification
Apply for and receive State Licensure
Meet a minimum of 30 continuing education hours every two years
